Scott’s PA System Tutorial: Setting it up
Share on Facebook A bridged amplifier uses the output from the two stereo channels to drive a single mono speaker load. It is often done to achieve a higher output from the amplifier by combining the available power of both channels. While it is not necessary when the amplifier is properly connected to stereo speaker cabinets, a bridged amp may be desirable if the system is to be run in mono. This will allow you to use the full power of the amplifier when it would otherwise be halved. Bridging a stereo amp is an easy procedure, but should only be undertaken on an amp that is designed to be bridged. Power off the amplifier before connecting to a speaker cabinet, and ensure that the speaker cabinet to be used is capable of handling the output load. The output impedance will double when the amp is bridged for example, if the amp runs at 2 ohms stereo output, the mono bridged output will be 4 ohms. Connect a speaker wire or cable to the “-” output of the second stereo channel. Connect the other end of the cable to the “-” terminal of the speaker cabinet.
Pioneer and JVC had receivers like this that had 4 channels only. In that case, some may have only had a subwoofer output or an occassional center channel output. The power amp you bought can be used if you have a pre-amplifier or a receiver that has Pre-Amp outputs.
What gauge wire for amp – detailed formula. In order to determine the appropriate wire gauge, first you have to figure out the current draw (in amperes) of your amplifier (or amplifiers).
I have limited space but had to drive some high quality Bowers and Wilkins speakers. The best solution for my needs. The speakers love some power and the Heos amp delivers plenty. Sometimes bringing the app on my iOS device Into focus takes longer than I would like when I need to turn the volume down NOW because the phone is ringing. Especially when the phone is same one I’m using to control the amp.
Small quibble with an excellent product. I for me its the best money spent!!! Audio company installed it. They sold me on two things that are not accurate. I was advised I could play music from my phone or mac and that is not the case.

Car Audio Black Friday Sales! Even though speakers are active loads resistance changes with frequency , it is accepted to treat speakers as resistors with a fixed resistance value usually 4 ohms. By combining speakers in different ways, maximum amplifier output can be obtained. For example if a 2-channel amplifier is rated to deliver a maximum output of watts at 2 ohms mono bridged , then by hooking up two 4 ohm subwoofers in parallel, a total load of 2 ohms is “seen” by the amplifier, obtaining optimum power.
People commonly hook up two or more speakers to the same channel out of an amplifier in parallel. This is achieved by hooking up the negative wire from the amp to all the negative connections of the speakers, and the positive to all the positive connections of the speakers.

Its easy to play it through an amp. One end plugs into the headphone jack on the iRig and the other end into the adapter which plugs into the amp input. Note that you will only get mono sound.
If your PA or amp is mono (meaning you can’t pan the inputs to one side or another of the speakers), don’t bother with the stereo outputs on the RP. Just use the RP’s 1/4″ mono output (the one that’s labeled “Left/mono”).
This is not a liability at all as the B is one of the best sounding tubes ever produced. Even if you have highest efficiency speakers, the golden tone of the B tube and extra headroom it provides, are still the safest bet for DHT amplifier success with the most kinds of speakers, especially if they are not horn types.
Push- pull B amplification offers the highest output power level of any of the above configurations up to 40 watts per channel or more in some circuits! For my initial foray into the world of DIY tube amps, I decided to hedge my bets and go with the B single-ended tube topology for higher power and great fidelity. If so, just skip to the appropriate section that you need. Getting your hands on a good schematic is the probably the second most important step in the amp building process.
Unless you are an experienced experimenter and design your own amps, the safest route is to select a proven schematic from many that are offered for free at sites on the Internet. For instance sites like:

Scott’s PA System Tutorial: PA Systems come in many different shapes and sizes, ranging from the very elaborate systems used in large stadiums all the way down to a simple microphone patched into your home stereo. Listed below are several of the most common setups. The Bare Bones The above example is about as basic a system as you can get. Hooking it together is relatively simple.
The most important thing to remember when hooking up any size PA is the direction of the signal. This is indicated above by the red arrows. The signal starts with your mouth or drum, or horn, or whatever , then goes through the microphone into the system, then routes its way through the amp, and finally into the speaker where it leaves the system as a much louder sound.
What Is a Mono Amplifier?
Overview[ edit ] Bridged or paralleled modes of working, normally involving audio power amplifiers, are methods of combining the output of two identical amplifiers to provide, what is in effect, a mono amplifier. Combining more than two amplifiers can be effected using the basic principles described, including the possibility of bridge and parallel modes in combination. Two identical amplifiers are most often encountered in a common case, with a common power supply, and would normally be regarded as a stereo amplifier.
Any conventional stereo amplifier can be operated in bridge or parallel mode provided that the common loudspeaker terminals normally black are connected and common to the ground rail within the amplifier. Some two channel amplifiers, or stereo amplifiers, have the built in facility to operate in bridge mode by operating a switch and observing the input and output connections detailed on the back panel or in the manual.
This option is most often found in high power PA equipment or amplifiers designed for car audio applications.
Apr 30, · To build this, refer to the circuit diagram that I have provided, you get a phono plug or your source and connect your resistors then connect your mono output to a mono amp or put two wires or rca from ground and two wires or rca from the output to your 2 channel amp .
How handy are you with tools, a hammer, wrench, screwdriver? When I was 19 years I built a vinyl turntable, quadraphonic amp and four speakers partly from kits. I didn’t have access to a power saw so I got the lumber yard to cut all my wood panels for the speakers exactly to size. Everything else just required careful planning. Connoisseur turntable built from a kit. The speaker uses a 3-way cross-over to drive three speakers, tweeter, mid-range and inch woofer.
The quad amplifier uses preassembled Sinclair modules. I had to design and build the power supply and a time delay relay to switch in the speaker outputs. Most of the hard work is in planning the physical layout and construction.
How to Bi-Wire and Bi-Amp Your Speakers

How Hide TV Cables Audiophiles are always looking for new ways to get the most out of their audio equipment. Over the years people have found creative ways for enhancing sound quality beyond just buying more expensive speakers. There are two techniques in particular that we will talk about here: While neither of these techniques are strictly necessary, they can potentially give you better sound.
Speakers are usually a combination of two specific speakers: Both Bi-Wiring and Bi-Amping try to improve sound quality by isolating these components from one another. Bi-Wiring Bi-wiring is a way of connecting a speaker to an audio amplifier. Normally only one cable connects the speaker to the amplifier. In bi-wiring, each loudspeaker uses two cables one for the tweeter and one for the bass in the speaker which are then connected to the same amplifier.
Since both sets of cables connect to the same ports on the amplifier, many people argue that there is no benefit to this kind of setup and that it is a waste of money. However, many audio enthusiasts feel that bi-wiring good speakers can make a subtle improvement to middle range sound. Mid-range is arguably the most important part of the music; for one thing, the human voice falls into this range.
According to these audio enthusiasts, voices are clearer and less muffled by using bi-wiring.
A Short Guide to Hooking Up Your Amp
Integrated amplifiers Looking back at the signal chain music must pass through, the next area to consider is the pre-amplifier. A stereo integrated amplifier is essentially a pre-amp and power amp in one box. A dedicated stereo amplifier will give a cleaner sound, due to it containing less electronics that can cause interference. It will have its own power supply, again giving better performance.
